Esta es la increíble historia de Gucci, mi perrita. La increíble historia de cómo salvó a una niña. Gucci es un Pinscher miniatura. Es una perrita muy buena y obediente a quien le gustan mucho los niños.
Una mañana en la que, como todos los días, la saqué a pasear de madrugada antes de ir a trabaja. Fuimos a una pequeña extensión de campo que hay cerca de mi casa para que pueda correr y oxigenarse. No la suelto hasta llegar a una explanada donde puede correr sin que yo la pierda de vista.
Antes de llegar y de que yo pudiera soltarle del arnés, se puso como loca a intentar tirar de mí y llevarme por otro camino. Yo no sabía qué le pasaba, nunca se había comportado de esa manera. Intenté primero calmarla y luego la regañé. Pero ella siguió en su empeño hasta, no entiendo cómo, consiguió soltarse del arnés y salió corriendo.
Confundida grité su nombre una y otra vez mientras corría detrás de ella. Siguiéndola atravesar maleza y matorrales que, por esa época ya estaban nevados, hasta llegar a una a una zona en la que nunca había estado y perder de vista a mi perrita.
Gucci encuentra a una niña
De repente, la vi a lo lejos. Moviéndose inquieta en el mismo lugar y llorando. Lo primero que pensé es que se había hecho daño y corrí a su encuentro.
Cuando estuve cerca de ella, lo que ví me heló la sangre y el alma. En el suelo, y semi cubierta por la nieve se veía una pequeña manita. Me apresure a quitar la nieve con cuidado y descubrí a una niña. Una niña pequeña, de no más de cuatro o cinco años. Tirada e inerte en el suelo.
Rápidamente, como si de un acto intuitivo se tratara, me quité el abrigo que llevaba puesto y se lo eché por encima a la niña. No me atrevía a tocarla, pero sí la cogí de su manita, no quería ni siquiera pensar que podía no estar viva. Los ojos se me llenaron de lágrimas. ¿Qué podía haberle ocurrido?
Con cuidado, me arrodille junto a ella y saqué mi móvil de uno de los bolsillos del abrigo rezando para que hubiera cobertura.
Al mismo tiempo Gucci se tumbó y arrastrándose con cuidado con sus dos patitas delanteras se acercó a la pequeña gimoteando de vez en cuando.Con mucha delicadeza apoyó su cabecita en el cuerpo de la niña. Mientras seguía lloriqueando sin cesar levantó sus cejas clavándome una mirada de tristeza como si me suplicara que yo hiciera algo. ¡Que salvara a la pequeña!
LLamé a emergencias, les dije dónde estábamos y les conté lo ocurrido:
– Por favor, dense prisa. _ les supliqué _ No sé qué más hacer.
– Tranquilícese señora. Dígame: ¿la niña espira? ¿sigue con vida?
Ante la crudeza de la pregunta vacile. La mano de la pequeña, que yo seguía sujetando entre las mías, seguía helada e inmóvil. Pero al mirarla de nuevo me di cuenta que había colocado su otra manita encima de la cabeza de Gucci y que la estaba mirando con los ojos entreabiertos y una leve mueca parecida a una sonrisa.
El corazón se me acelero, se me hizo un nudo en la garganta y las lágrimas corrieron por mis mejillas.
La niña está viva
– ¡ ESTÁ VIVA ! grité entre sollozos. ¡ ESTÁ VIVA ! Se ha movido. Ha colocado su mano encima de la cabeza de mi perro. Dense prisa por favor, tenemos que salvarla.
La telefonista de emergencias también parecía emocionada. Se quedó hablando conmigo, intentando tranquilizarme hasta que llegaron los sanitarios.
Mi perrita y yo nos retiramos para dejar que ellos hicieran su trabajo. Vimos como rápidamente y de forma muy profesional estabilizaron a la niña, la colocaban en una camilla protegiéndola el cuellecito, la ponían oxígeno y se la llevaban en la ambulancia.
Estaban todos muy concentrados en su labor y no nos prestaban atención, hasta que antes de irse uno de ellos se dio la vuelta con una leve sonrisa y me dijo: no te preocupes, se pondrá bien.
Me quedé observando como se alejaba la ambulancia, y al bajar la mirada hacía Gucci vi que tenía su cabecita levantada hacía mí y me miraba y que agitaba su colita con alegría. Parecía saber que ya todo había pasado y que todo iba a salir bien.
La pregunta queda en el aire…
¿Son los perritos unos angelitos que cuidan de nosotros?
Mucha gente dice que el perro es el mejor amigo del hombre. Otros llegan más allá y opina que son angelitos que cuidan de nosotros. Lo cierto es que se han dado muchos casos en los que los perritos han salvado la vida de muchas personas, incluso llegado a poner sus vida en peligro por nosotros.
Al cabo de unos días fuí a visitar a la niña que ya se estaba recuperando y la conté cómo gracias a mi perrita conseguimos salvarla. Esto hizo que quisiera conocerla y quedamos que al darle el alta nos veríamos las tres.
Ahora que ya se conocen se han hecho buenas amigas.
